Diphthongs and Triphthongs.

DEFINITIONS:


DIPHTHONGS:an unsegmentable, gliding speech sound varyingcontinuously in phonetic quality but held to be a single soundor phoneme and identified by its apparent beginning andending sound, as the oi-sound of toy or boil.




PROPER DIPHTHONGS:A coalition or union of two vowel sounds pronounced in one syllable; as, ou in out, oi in noise; -- called a proper diphthong.


IMPROPER DIPHTHONGS:A vowel digraph; a union of two vowels in the same syllable, only one of them being sounded; as, ai in rain, eo in people.


TRIPHTHONGS:A combination of three vowel sounds in a single syllable, forming a simple or compound sound; also, a union of three vowel characters, representing together a single sound; a trigraph; as, eye, -ieu in adieu, -eau in beau, are examples of triphthongs.

REFLECTION:

I really had many problems with this topic because i didn't understand well about it, althought i search the information i coulnd't resolve all the excercise in one class but at the end i could understand very good about diphthongs and triphthongs, also i knew many tools in the internet that are interesting for work.

Minimal Pairs


What are the minimal pairs?
Minimal Pairs are words that have the same pronunciation except for one little sound.

Why do you think the minimal pairs are important?
I think they are very, very important because you have to pronounce correctly all those similar sounds for to avoid missunderstoods with the other people.

MINIMAL PAIRS

Pair 1: live - leave





I live in Bogotá





I have to leave the university


Pair 2: catch - cash





Cath the ball, there it go!
